travels…

I finally went on holiday and came back with yarn.

We wandered round the market in Fethiye and just about every other stall had yarn on. I assume it had something to do with the fact that the tourist season was ending and people are starting to prepare for winter. I had to explain to my friend that most of it was 100% acrylic. A couple of days later we walked past an actual wool shop so I had to go in. There were so many lovely colours, it was hard to pick. damn the 20kg weight allowance.

God knows what I’m going to do with it.

October already.

first sock almost done.

first sock almost done.

I’ve been using Wendys’ Generic Toe-Up sock pattern, It knits up incredibly quickly. If all goes well with the casting off I should have the second one on the needles in a matter of days.

I’m starting to feel slightly inspired and while I don’t think knitting sweaters is for me, I feel like there is hope for me as a knitter. This sock seems a little neater than all of my other attempts. It’s nice to see that there is some improvement in my work. Hell, i may even try knitting some socks with a bit of a pattern to them next!

Toe up!

With too many thoughts swirling around my head I decided that a relatively simple project was needed, something that I could sit and knit without too much concentration. Lo and behold, whilst randomly browsing ravelry, I stumble across Wendy’s generic toe up sock pattern. After having failed to cast off sufficiently in the past I’ve been looking for better methods and have stumbled across a few ideas. We’ll see what happens.

Words can’t begin to describe.

Unfortunately this blog is becoming less and less about knitting. Any motivation I had for knitting has well and truly been lost for the moment. Even if I had the desire, I lack the equiptment. My knitting swag is buried in a box under more boxes that were hastily stacked in the spare room. Why? because of this..

Just another Saturday.

Just another Saturday.

Luckily we weren’t affected too badly but I personally know dozens of people who were. Family, friends, Neighbours.

Why is it…?

Do people wait until I’m really busy to ask me for favours that need to be done ‘right away’? Everything is always super urgent.

‘I need it for tomorrow, it’s really really important’ actually means ‘ I can’t be bothered to figure out how to do it myself so I’m going to guilt trip you into doing it for me, I don’t actually need it for tomorrow and if by some miracle you get it done then I won’t use it for at least another 3 weeks. Oh and I hope you lose lots of precious sleep.’

Well screw you!

I’ve had 3 different people ask me for favours and they all seemed to be in such a hurry. Well, excuse me but if I tell you you’re going to get it at the beginning of next week then that’s when you’ll get it. Don’t harass me or I’ll send you head first through that window!

I’ve been working 50+ hours for the past 3 weeks. No days off. Living off very suspect ready meals and existing on very little sleep and if something goes wrong at work it must be my fault cos i’m the only frickin’ person that seems to be there.

I have been reading during the odd break. I was determined to get ‘Odd Hours’ finished no matter what and I’ve been dreaming of starting a new pair of socks. I already have the yarn.

next in line.

next in line.

I have a feeling I’m going to frog the sleeve I’ve done for my fusion cardigan and start it again. The back is done so there’s no need to tamper with that.

I really want a complete set of needles.

No time for knitting.

Work has been crazy for the last week or so and it won’t get any easier until October. I’ve decided to hold off on the knitting until my heads in a place where I can focus on it properly. I don’t want to knit a few rows here and a few rows there and confuse the crap out of myself. We’ll see what happens though. I do have some more time to myself on Monday.

As I dont like photoless posts, have this.

Fusion goodness.

I finally found the Pattern I’ve been trying to get hold of to use up the Wendy Fusion I acquired from my Mother, the plan is to knit the jumper for her but if it fits me we won’t tell she’s missed on a nifty new jumper.

I love knitting with Wendy Fusion, love love love it!

Pattern, Back, Sleeve.

Pattern, Back, Sleeve.

I have the back complete and now I’m onto the first sleeve. The colours remind me of an iced lolly.

Did I mention that I totally love, mobile broadband? It is all things good.

Aha!

I’m really not a fan of photoless posts and given that the batteries in my lovely camera are dead I have nothing new to post here, that and the fact I have nothing to take a photo of, here is something random.

ooh, pretty view.

ooh, pretty view.

Anyhoo, I feel like a total idiot. I came across my kauni and felt slightly disappointed at the fact that I still haven’t knitted anything with it. A while back I began to knit up Cozy from Knitty. It was crap. It didn’t ressemble any of the other Cozies I’d seen out there. I’d resigned myself to the fact that I’m a shit knitter. So I ripped the whole thing out. When I came across it again I thought I’d give it another shot, no luck, it still came out looking totally pants. I even tried knitting something else with it and it just wasn’t happening.

I’ve made no secret of the fact that lace patterns are not my friend. Out of sheer boredom or perhaps some unconcious desire to find another explanation I googled “yarn overs” a couple of videos on youtube popped up and I gave them a watch. I’ve only been doing ‘yo’s’ wrong!! How in the hell did I manage that?!

So, now that I have some newly acquired knitting inspiration and motivation, the plan is to give Cozy another go, It won’t beat me, it won’t!

Oh and listen to this song or else.

Only 3 projects in almost 7 months, I should be ashamed of myself. I have plenty of yarn, plenty of patterns at my finger tips and plenty of excuses as to why I haven’t bothered to do more.

I vowed I wouldn’t be like my Mother, starting projects and then casting them aside and forgetting about them but here I am having uncovered a bag containing various bits of a cardigan that I procrastinated over and then tossed aside without sewing it up. Looking through it I realised it’s been almost a year since I started it, I was determined to have it finished in 2 weeks and I wasn’t far off it, well the knitting aspect anyway.

I’d considered knitting Juno Regina from Knitty a while ago and then various other things came up and I never got round to it, I came across it again while I was browsing through Ravelry and decided I’d read through the pattern (to make sure it wasn’t too complicated for me) but I seem completely incapable of doing anything remotely lacy. Why don’t my YO ever look like they’re intentional? Where are the nice, perfectly rounded little holes the pattern calls for when I use them?

I can’t help but think I’m destined for a life of boring old garter stitch scarves. It doesn’t help when you see the hundreds of beautiful FO’s on Ravelry created by happy knitters who confess they’ve “only been doing this a few months.” I can’t help but think ‘bitches’.

Summers here and the holiday is over.

Back from two weeks in the sun and another project is complete.

these are not my legs!

I’d completed one of the socks before I went on holiday and took the yarn and needles to knit the other while I was there. It was incredibly hot during the day and we spent most of our time in the pool or in the shade. I’d spend about half an hour each morning, after breakfast, on the balcony knitting. I was surprised how quickly the thing knitted up compared with its pair.

So now I have to find myself another project. I have plenty of single skeins and had been thinking of doing something small but it now appears that I have quite a stash of other yarn that my Mam has decided she won’t ever do anything with, Yay for having a fickle mother who loves to buy yarn!

Perhaps I’ll do something with the 10 skeins of Wendy’s Fusion.

And I managed to read 3 whole books!!
